2011 Reaching Home Dinner & Supportive Housing Awards

Kevin Sullivan Speaks to DinnerEach year since 2006, the Partnership for Strong Communities has celebrated the success of the supportive housing movement through the Annual Reaching Home Supportive Housing Celebration Dinner and Awards.  The celebration dinner and awards offer the opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year and to honor those who have worked to make supportive housing a success.

Nearly 400 people gathered on June 9, 2011 to honor the 2011 Supportive Housing Award winners and celebrate the progress of the supportive housing movement in Connecticut at the 6th Annual Reaching Home Supportive Housing Celebration Dinner and Awards. The Partnership for Strong Communities and the Reaching Home Campaign were pleased to have so many members of the community who are involved in providing supportive housing and ending homelessness join us for this celebration.

At this year’s event, each of the 2011 Reaching Home Supportive Housing Award winners spoke passionately about how supportive housing changes lives, restores dignity and allows people to connect to family, education and work. Tim Bannon, Governor Malloy’s Chief of Staff and Shawn Lang, Director of Public Policy of CT AIDS Resource Coalition were the recipients of the Rev. Richard Schuster Supportive Housing Advocacy Award. The Supportive Housing Partner Awards went to Betsy Cronin, Program Director of The Connection and Elizabeth Torres, Executive Director, Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust. The Janice Elliott Tenant Awards were awarded to John Ripley of Danbury and Esther Ross of Bridgeport. We also introduced the Inaugural Leadership award to Diane Randall, former Executive Director of the Partnership for Strong Communities. We are deeply appreciative of Kevin Sullivan, Commissioner of Revenue Services and Board President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, who served as the Master of Ceremony again this year.

More information about the work being done by our extraordinary award recipients is available here.
