Celebrating Success at the 2018 Reaching Home Housing Awards

Plans for the 2018 Reaching Home Celebration Dinner and Housing Awards are well underway.  And while we’re making some changes this year, which I’m very excited about, the focus of the evening is the same as always: celebrating the Reaching Home campaign’s collaborative triumphs and the people who work tirelessly to prevent and end homelessness in the state.

On Thursday night, June 14th, colleagues, community partners, friends, supporters and sponsors, all of whom are a powerful force in the fight against homelessness, will gather at the stunning Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven for an evening of fun, inspiration and comradery.

This year’s winners of the Housing Awards are amazing in their leadership, passion and accomplishments. I love hearing the incredibly moving stories of the Carol Walter Supportive Housing Tenant awardees. Once homeless, they’ve transformed their lives dramatically and now vow to help others.  They are our heroes!

The evening will begin with a social hour on the patio; how lovely it will be to have the waves and beach as our backdrop! Anthony’s has consistently received 4 to 5 stars on social media sites for its venue and food, so we are in for a treat.  In addition to cocktails, beverages, appetizers and conversation on the patio, there will also be a silent auction.  Thanks to the generosity of our many wonderful donors, there is something for everyone, even the kids.  Check out our website for spoiler alerts on auction items coming soon!

Our M.C. this year is Renee DiNino of iHeart radio fame. Her energy, kind spirit, sincerity, sense of humor and commitment to our cause make her perfect for the role.  Everyone loves Renee (including me) and we are elated to have her as our M.C.!

We are honored to welcome Rafael Lopez as our keynote speaker.  With an exceptional background solving some of the toughest challenges facing children, families and communities, Lopez previously served as the Commissioner of the Administration on Children, Youth and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a role to which he was nominated by President Obama. Lopez has dedicated his career to improving the lives of children, youth, and families in leadership roles at the City, county and state levels, and we are thrilled for him to share his unique insights, experiences, and passion for solving complex issues, like homelessness.

As if all of this weren’t enough, we are thrilled to welcome Javier Colon, who will serenade us at the dinner.  You may recall that Javier is the Season One Winner of NBC’s “The Voice.” He is internationally known and celebrated as an acoustic soul genius, and for good reason! (I voted for him in Season One and you’ll see why – he’s amazing).  Javier is very excited about being part of our event and our mission and I love his sincerity and generosity.

If you have already RSVP’d, donated, sponsored or advertised, thank you very much your support and for being a part of this grand evening!  Please email me at janep@pschousing.org or give me a call at 860-244-0066.  I’d love to let you know about the different ways you can be involved.

Thank you and I look forward to celebrating with you at the dinner!
