CNT Provides Guidance on Poverty Reduction

The Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT)

The Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) recently released a report entitled the Urban Poverty Agenda, which provides cost reduction strategies for low-income residents in 10 locations (e.g., Macon-Bibb County, GA; Gary, IN; Philadelphia, PA). It asserts that simply providing jobs is a limited strategy for poverty reduction.

The agenda suggests that the aforementioned locations could reduce poverty by 25% through using a multipronged approach that includes expense reduction, job creation, and smart investments. The report also recommends cutting costs for transportation, energy, and water as well as improving access to food, childcare, and healthcare.

CNT argues that this multipronged approach will improve the economic vitality of communities by boosting the spending power of low-income residents and cutting costs for municipalities.
