CT Main Street Center Awards Grants to 6 Communities

Six organizations have been awarded a total of $68,737 in 2012 Preservation of Place grants, the Connecticut Main Street Center announced today.

Grant recipients include Main Street Waterbury, the Town of Suffield, the City of Torrington, Thread City Development Corporation (Willimantic), the City of West Haven, and the Northwestern Connecticut Regional Planning Collaborative, on behalf of the towns of Cornwall, Kent, Norfilk, Sharon, Salisbury, Falls Village and Goshen.

"Historic Preservation, and the revitalization of our Main Streets, creates jobs, brings vacant buildings back on the tax rolls and adds value and vitality to adjacent buildings and neighborhoods," said John Simone, President & CEO of CT Main Street Center.  "The Community Investment Act supports the 'Infrastructure of Place' - pristine open space, vibrant historic town centers, working farms and housing choices for everyone.  Our Infrastructure of Place is at the intersection of sustainable economic development and quality of life."
