Report Examines Educational Performance Among Children and Youth Who are Homeless

The National Center for Homeless Education released a report describing the prevalence and characteristics of children and youth in the education system that are homeless. Data is presented for the 2010-2011, 2011-2012, and 2012-2013 school years (SY). Highlights for comparisons between SY 2010-2011 and SY 2012-2013:

  • 2% decrease in the percent of students who are homeless and living in a shelter
  • 2% decrease in the percent of students who are homeless and living unsheltered
  • 5% decrease in students who are homeless meeting the State proficiency in reading
  • 7% decrease in students who are homeless meeting the State proficiency in math
  • 3% increase in students who are homeless meeting the State proficiency in science
