Estimated Impacts of 2013 Sequester on Housing Programs Available

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has estimated that cuts in federal funding due to take effect if the March 1, 2013 sequestration happens will result in a funding reduction of about 5% for federally funded non-defense discretionary programs. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities have updated their estimates regarding the impact sequestration cuts will have on housing assistance and community development programs in 2013 for each state. The revised estimates for Connecticut are as follows:

Community Development Block Grants

  • 2012 Actual: $34,325,990
  • 2013 Estimated sequestration cut: -$1,784,951

HOME Program

  • 2012 Actual: $11,467,021
  • 2013 Estimated sequestration cut: -$596,285

Housing Choice Vouchers

  • 2012 # of families assisted: 33,767
  • 2013 Estimated number of families cut under sequestration: -1,788

Public Housing

  • 2012 Estimated funding: $82,070,160
  • 2013 estiamted funding cut under sequestration: -$4,267,648

Homeless Assistance

  • 2012 Actual Funding: $35,567,628
  • 2013 estimated funding cut under sequestration: -$1,793,700
