Fairfield County Community Foundation Awards Grant

Fairfield County Community Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to Partnership for Strong Communities for the Reaching Home Campaign, which Partnership staffs.

Reaching Home seeks to build the political and civic will to prevent and end homelessness in Connecticut. At its heart is Opening Doors-Connecticut, a program that is modeled after the federal Opening Doors plan, that sets goals to:

  • End chronic homelessness by 2016
  • Prevent and end homelessness among veterans by 2016.
  • Prevent and end homelessness among families, youth and children by 2021.
  • Set a path to ending all types of homelessness.

The Partnership has expanded Reaching Home’s steering committee to include representatives from across sectors, disciplines, and geographies to help foster the collaborative approach that is necessary to end homelessness.

“We appreciate Fairfield County Community Foundation’s support in this important, statewide effort,” said Howard Rifkin, Partnership executive director. “We take seriously the goal of ending homelessness as we know it.”

The Partnership is a non-profit policy advocacy organization focused on fostering vibrant communities, eliminating homelessness, and creating homes. Since its founding in 1998, the Partnership has connected key policymakers, local officials, corporate leadership, and not-for-profit organizations to create positive changes in policies that make our communities better places to live and work.

Fairfield County Community Foundation promotes the growth of community and regional philanthropy to improve the quality of life throughout Fairfield County. Individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds and contribute to existing funds. The foundation provides philanthropic advisory services, and develops and leads initiatives to tackle critical community issues. It is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards for community foundations. The foundation has awarded over $151 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond.
