Feds Offer Support for State Medicaid and Housing Partnerships

U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH)

The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are providing support for states working to develop a partnership between health and housing agencies. This is a six-month intensive action planning process designed to help participants learn how they can utilize Medicaid covered housing related services to provide housing opportunities for Medicaid beneficiaries. The goal is for states to address these two issues:

  • Increase the supply and availability of supportive housing stock targeted at low-income persons with complex health needs.
  • Decide how communities can use Medicaid to pay for services that encourage stable health and housing outcomes.

Participants will have the opportunity to create specific action plans to help strengthen state-level partnerships and planning and utilize data to identify housing needs and local resources that could be leveraged to provide affordable health care and housing services to those in need.
