Community Development, Homelessness

The Give Me Shelter Walk is Coming. Are You Registered?

Teresa A. Wierbicki is the Development Director at Immaculate Conception Shelter & Housing Corporation in Hartford.

Last year, the first for Immaculate Conception Shelter & Housing Corporation’s “Give Me Shelter – A Walk to End Homelessness,” more than 200 people came to the Connecticut River to support the shelter.

ICSHC provides services to hundreds of men and women who are homeless in Hartford. A lack of family support, addiction, mental illness, and unemployment lead them to ICSHC, where we work to connect them with the services they will need to survive in the community, as well as provide housing.

We invite you to support our continuing mission by joining us for a 5K scenic walk along the beautiful Connecticut River while raising money to support the mission of the agency, “to provide housing and decent shelter to those with no other options.” It will be a family fun-filled morning with music, face-painting and more! Registration is only $20 before the day of the walk and $30 the day of the walk.

Participants who raise $100 in personal sponsors get a free “Give Me Shelter” water bottle! Visit www.icshc.org to be connected to the Give Me Shelter Walk web site to register on-line, create a team or download a form to mail in. Feel free to invite your colleagues, family, and friends to participate. Corporate, nonprofit, community, and individual support enable us to provide housing and hope to those with no other options.

This year’s walk is Saturday, Sept. 21, at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford. You can register online, create a team, or download a form to mail in here. For more information or for sponsorship opportunities, contact Teresa A. Wierbicki, ICSHC Development Director at 860-724-4823 x 103 or Teresa@icshc.org.
