Gov. Malloy Appoints Advisory Group to Review VA Rocky Hill Campus

State of CT Office of the Governor

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has appointed an advisory group to determine the most effective use of the state’s Department of Veterans Affairs Rocky Hill campus. The group will work toward the goal of eliminating chronic homelessness among veterans and will be led by Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.

The state of Connecticut has embraced the goal of ending homelessness among veterans in the state by 2015. As part of the Malloy Administration’s efforts to reach this goal, the state’s budget provides $500,000 for a capital needs assessment of the Rocky Hill campus, which includes a feasibility study for potential additional veterans housing.

The advisory group includes:

  • Commissioner Linda Schwartz
  • Betsy Crum, CT Housing Coalition
  • Daniel McHale, US Army
  • Commissioner Evonne Klein, Department of Housing
  • Greg Behrman, CT Heroes Project
  • Frank Alvarado, Veterans Affairs Officer Small Business Administration
  • Dr. David Rosenthal , Federal VA
  • Margaret Middleton, Executive Director of the CT Veterans Legal Center
  • Michael Thomas, Veteran and Small Business Owner
  • Terry Brennan, Director Veterans Workforce Development, State Department of Labor
  • Luke Bronin, General Counsel to Governor Malloy and a veteran
  • Lisa Tepper Bates, Executive Director of the CT Coalition to End Homelessness

The goal of ending veteran homeless by 2015 is also shared by the Reaching Home Campaign, which collaborated with the CT Heroes Project to develop a plan to end veteran homelessness under the Opening Doors-CT framework. The CT Heroes Project is now working to implement the elements of that plan, which include improving access to housing and employment and increasing outreach to veterans in the state experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.
