Improving Health Outcomes for People Experiencing Homelessness with Tuberculosis

United States Interagency Council on Homelessness

The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, has released a fact sheet on tuberculosis (TB), entitled Preventing & Addressing Tuberculosis among People Experiencing Homelessness.

People experiencing homelessness suffer TB at disproportionately high rates, both because TB can easily spread through the air in densely populated shelters and because conditions like malnutrition and HIV-infection raise risk. The fact sheet provides background information on TB and lists strategies and resources for service providers to lower the risk of exposure.
