McKinney-Vento Letter Circulates through Senate

A bi-partisan letter sponsored by Senators Jack Reed (D-RI), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Charles Schumer (D-NY) requesting support for funding in FY2013 for McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants and the HUD-Dept of Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program is being circulated through the Senate. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act was passed in 1987 to provide federal funds to homeless shelters and was the first significant federal legislation to address homelessness.

The House McKinney letter received 55 signatures before it was closed.  Included in those 55 signatures were CT State Representatives Joe Courtney (D) and Rosa DeLauro (D).

The deadline for senators to join the letter is Tuesday, March 20.
