Survey Cites Affordable Housing, Homelessness as Top Challenges

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston released its March 2015 report on data from the October 2014 New England Community Outlook Survey. The report examines challenges faced by lower-income communities, including gaps in services and funding. The top five challenges reportedly faced by low-income communities include:

  1. Employment opportunities
  2. Affordable housing
  3. State and local budget cuts
  4. Increasing homelessness
  5. Adult workforce development

Substance use and dependence were also reported to be on the rise, with respondents reporting a 63% increase in their communities.
