New Report Looks at Impact of State of Emergency Declarations for Homelessness

National Health Care for the Homeless Council

A new report – Homeless States of Emergency: Advocacy Strategies to Advance Permanent Solutions - was recently released in light of the many communities that have issued a state of emergency (SOE)for homelessness.

The report offers an overview of nine jurisdictions that have made SOE declarations and evaluates what kind of policy implications will result from these declarations. Will they be used to promote advocacy and awareness around ending homelessness? More often than not, the report found that SOE declarations are short term and do not result in long-lasting solutions to battling homelessness.

The report includes recommendations for long-term solutions to be used in conjunction with future SOE declarations.
