Report Offers Ideas for Addressing Changing Demographics

By 2043, one in five U.S. residents will be 65 or older. By 2042, more than half of the nation will be people of color.

A new report, Out of Many, One: Uniting the Changing Faces of America, says that most Americans are aware of changing age and race demographics in the U.S. – and they are, by and large, welcoming of those changes.

The report explores some recommendations as to how to meet the challenges of a changing country.

Some of the suggestions include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote greater affordability of home-ownership and rental housing through mortgage deduction reform
  • Facilitate homesharing as a way to address the student debt crisis
  • Implement flexible work arrangements
  • Increase the use of time banks to address issues affecting all ages
  • Allow same-day registration for voting nationwide

The report is a product of Generations United and The Generations Initiative.
