United Van Lines Releases 2011 Migration Study

United Van Lines, the nation's largest household goods mover, published its 2011 annual migration study which provides data on which states its customers are moving to and from. The most striking thing about the data shows that 6 out of the 10 states that fell into the high outbound category were located in the North East region, thereby surpassing the Great Lakes region as the leader in outbound moves.

The North East states with high outbound traffic were: New Jersey (60.5%), New York (58.3%), Connecticut (55.8%), Rhode Island (56.3%), New Hampshire (56.1%), and Maine (55.8%). High outbound states were categorized as states where 55% or more of the moves are leaving the state and high inbound are states where 55% or more of the moves are entering the state.  In 2010, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and Maine were not on the high outbound list but were instead on the balanced states list.
