VA Announces $300 Million to Help At-Risk Veterans

On Monday, August 11, the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that approximately $300 million in grants will be awarded through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. These grants will be distributed to 301 community agencies in all 50 states and will help up to 115,000 homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families.

The grants will be used to provide a range of services to promote housing stability among very low income Veteran families. These grants are aimed to help achieve President Obama’s goal of ending Veteran homelessness by 2015.

The CT awardees were:

  • Community Renewal team - $529,380
  • The Workplace, Inc - $1,281,624
  • Columbus House, Inc - $1,516,990
  • Operation Stand Down Rhode Island - $1,027,140 – also search SE CT communities bordering Westerly, RI.
