The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) new guide encourages state and local Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) agencies to establish a process for accessing families housing instability during initial intake. Enhancing Family Stability: A Guide for Assessing Housing Status and Coordinating with Local Homelessness Programs for TANF Agencies provides an overview of the role of TANF agencies within the homeless system and identifies steps that they can take to to ensure that families who are experiencing homelessness are connected to housing services.
