In August 2021, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) published a four (4) step guide on how to ensure individuals and households are connected to available resources if they are facing an eviction.
The four steps outlined in the tool kit include:
- Learning about their rights and current protections
- Reaching out to different stakeholders to help reinforce or maintain housing stability
- Applying for emergency aid if and where necessary to help pay rent bills or other arrearages
- Ensuring they’ve claimed their Economic Impact Payments, or Child Tax Credits if eligible
The guide also offers translations to resources/tools in Spanish and provides additional guidance to landlords who may be at risk of losing income. Lastly, the resource list provided suggests sharing out/downloading this flyer to help renters and landlords to prevent evictions.
