I decided to participate in the Home Matters movement because I knew it was not only essential for my work, it is imbedded in my values.
I have had many Homes, all of which have shaped me into the person I am today. From my humble beginnings in a small, impoverished town in Ecuador, to the various apartments I rented and the house I purchased. They have all been Home to me. This is where I could lay my head after many hours at school and work. My Homes provided shelter, safety and served as a foundation where I could provide a valuable start for my children.
NeighborWorks New Horizons’ mission is to develop permanently affordable, quality housing for strong, healthy and vibrant communities: Home is where it all begins.
We serve over 400 families with Homes that they can afford. We strive to transform neglected neighborhoods and empty unproductive lots into sound, energy-efficient and quality Homes for the long-term.
All of these efforts end with handing the keys over to working families who simply want a better future for themselves and their children.
And then a new process begins – the process of a family who proudly maintains their new, affordable Home and provides a stable and healthy start for their child. This family will now thrive, with the opportunity to invest their hard-earned pay into education, transportation for a better job, or to buy their first home.
I am proud to be part of a movement that understands that Home is critical to developing a neighborhood, contributing to economic growth, and ultimately changing the nation. Home truly Matters.
